Hmm.
Restrained in a good way. No gaudy CRIBS type excess, unless you consider his high taste and mix of pop and couture excess.
1, 2, 3, 4.
Lovely work, in black and white and grey.
The redesign of Mozilla Labs that I did recently is now up and running.
Andrew and I were interviewed for an article about Twitter recently. It’s now live on the Chicago Tribune website. I sound like a buzzkill at the end. In a good way, to me, anyway.
“Talking about sports using war analogies – athletes are not ‘warriors’ and the court is not a ‘battle zone.’ and “Drinking light beer. There is nothing good about light beer, especially when it’s called ‘lite.’ Our taste buds are one thing – why do you have to assault the English language as well?”

Ingredients for Japanese pizza. I recognize the S&B chili/spice flakes and what I assume is either soy or Japanese BBQ sauce. On the left?
Another well done Tumblr theme, this time from Matthew Buchanan.
Andrew Lin (one of my favourite designers ever) along with his cohorts open up a new design studio. Get a sneak peek of Adobe Nova and CS4.
One of my favourites, Behavior have a new site. A nice evolution of their grid design over the years. By my count, version 3.
A home riddled with secret doors, compartments and a book with its own scavenger hunt.
The Dalai Lama’s youngest brother is sharp. “And then, on the other side of the scale, there’s Steven Seagal. Oh my god. I met him when he came here. He was wearing a funny coat, a Chinese brocade, funny trousers, and funny shoes with that ponytail. I asked him, “Why do you dress in such a peculiar manner?” He didn’t say anything.” [via]
Matt at Burstlabs on the latest from Girl Talk. Myself? I downloaded it free (I’d never heard any Girl Talk until then though I was quite familiar with who he is) and I’ve been enjoying it in a kitchsy fun kind of way.
Interesting data/timeline design from Airbag designer, Stephen Caver. It would seem that we’re getting tired of plain old columns.
Patric and Su have a new house.
“Thinking for a Living™ was created for those who believe that while design is a profession, it’s above all a passion.”
Classic mid-century branding and identity is still some of the best (You hear that corporations? No? Oh well.) and this is some of the best.
Mother knows best.
“Going independent “was a weird feeling,” he said. “It was bittersweet. It was happiness: ‘We’re finally, finally free of this bureaucracy. Oh, no, now what are we going to do?’” Reznor reshaping music.
Even galactic despots need their fix.
Clever layout from Jeff Pamer. [via]
I often lust after Monocle for many reasons and am always trying to make myself buy a copy. However, whenever I actually pick a copy up at the newsstand and give it a good read through, I place it back where it came from. Adam Greenfield sums it up well.
A quick reminder: most of the things that would go here in List are being posted over at Coudal for this fine month of May.
I sometimes tire of the minimal Swiss style that designers adopt but Horner’s site is remarkably refreshing. The Modernist Diary looks swell.
Grant Hutchinson on the new Veer Ideas.
Confusion, not concealment.
Rob Weychert is traveling the states. Lovely design and great notes from his journey along the way. Look forward to hopefully rendezvous-ing when he hits Chicago.
Pentagram’s cipher series.
On Pulau Langkawi (which translates to Langkawi Island) in Malaysia, is this bridge. Remarkable. [Via]
