Hmm.

About

Feb 23 2008

As taken by Chris "Bunyan" Glass of Ohio, whilst visiting in Chicago, at the Hopleaf, a grubpub close to my heart.

Depending on the context and who asks, the question, "What are you?" or "What do you do?" is replied to with different answers. To most, I'm a designer. To others, I'm a cyclist or perhaps a bit of a bike fanatic. To some others, a photographer and to an even smaller group, a musician.

Mini-FAQ

Why?

No real reason aside from fancy and a restless desire to rip up things and re-do them. This is yet another attempt at keeping a journal/blog/whathaveyou of sorts that tries to tie in a few of the things I do on the web. My dear friend Andrew Huff, when he heard I was doing yet another site, probably rolled his eyes for the umpteenth time but when he saw the comps and after asking me about the original tagline suggested that I just position it as "Naz Hamid on the Internet." It's pretty apt and is what this site is, in a nutshell. Andrew's cool like dat.

Off the Internet.

When I'm not on the internet, I spend a lot of time obsessing over cycling but even more time concerned with The Girl™ and our menagerie of animals: Monty the Cat™, Loki the Cat™ and Shaun the Dog™. Chicago, IL is home.

Design

The design reflects a few things: A love of grids, topography and infographics. The site uses a 10-column grid, each sized at 85 pixels with a 10 pixel gutter. Grids changed the way I approached design for the web, most of it due to my time working with Khoi Vinh at Behavior (back in the day), the closest thing to a design mentor I've ever had. This design is a nod and mix of old designs and recent approaches to functionality.

Colophon

The site is published with the excellent Textpattern, my current CMS of choice for personal websites and more. Coded in Panic's Coda. The site uses Clarendon, Gotham, Georgia and Arial for type. Made with a Mac. Photos are typically shot with a Nikon D70 with the occasional Canon s110 Powershot Elph (rare).
